Tigers & Dragons Promotion

Our Tigers & Dragons Programs are preparatory programs for the full black belt curriculum.  The program builds the mental and physical attributes necessary for students to succeed in our Taekwondo programs and at school and home.

Tigers & Dragons Belt Systems

The Tigers & Dragons belt systems represent additional gradations between white belt and solid yellow belt.

Tigers:  Single Stripe, Dragons: Double Stripe

Color System:

Promotion Qualification

Tigers & Dragons qualify for promotion through regular attendance and learning the material contained in each of three phases of the session.  At the culmination of each phase the instructors will run through the material in class as an informal test.  To mark the progress through the phases each student will receive a tape on his/her belt.  Below is a typical session:

Phase 1: Week 1-6, Tape Testing on Week 6
Phase 2: Week 7-12, Tape Testing on Week 12
Phase 3: Week 13-18, Tape Testing/Testing on Week 18
Grad Prep: Week 18-19, Testing/Prep for Grad Ceremony
Graduation Ceremony: Week 19-20 (Week 20 is Fun Week)

Graduation Ceremony, Receiving their new belt

Once students are fully qualified and receive their tapes, they are ready to receive their new belt at the Graduation Ceremony.  The opportunity to get up on stage and perform some of their new moves is a great, confidence-building experience for students of all ages.  We highly recommend you invite family and friends to see your little Tiger or Dragon on this momentous occasion!

Why Tigers & Dragons Don’t Have a Formal Test

In this age range, we do not see the benefit of having a formal promotion test as is required for the older age groups.  We find through years of experience that the best way to build students of this age is through a more personalized process of in-class testing coupled with the challenge of the graduation ceremony.
